\"\"<\/a>The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) seeks a qualified journalist in Montenegro for its regional project on the topic of transitional justice in South Eastern Europe. The Journalist will be responsible for analytical, investigative and courtside reporting and directly report to the Editor of the project, Programme Manager, and Coordinator as well as other authorised supervisor\/s, who will assign duties as appropriate. The chosen candidate will work at a rewarding position in a young and dynamic organisation that sets the news agenda in the Balkan region.<\/p>\n

This is a highly demanding part-time position for a set period of 21 months. All candidates need to be available as of January 2012 (the full scope of work will start as of February 2012). Salary will be offered on a competitive basis.<\/p>\n

Description of the project:<\/p>\n

BIRN is launching a new two-year multi-media regional project funded by the European Commission and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project aims to increase a general public understanding of transitional justice in the post-Yugoslav countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia) and improve the state of media through a regional network of six locally based specialized journalists that would create a new Transitional Justice Regional Journalistic Team. The project consists of online news reports covering regional issues related to war crimes, radio programmes that provides monthly reports about all issues related to post-war processes related to transitional justice, and a series of six documentaries and one film tracking the investigative work of the Transitional Justice Regional Journalistic Team. The fundamental goal of the project is to makes sure that the public in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Montenegro have free and open access to impartial news and analyses about regional transitional justice as a founding stone to a successful democratization, functioning rule of law, respect for human rights, and sustainable peaceful future.<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Daily media clipping of articles republished in the local media including identification, cutting, collection, preparation of daily, weekly and monthly summaries;<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Development of new ideas and topics for the online news portal, radio, and TV outputs of this project, as well as continuously working on improving and further developing the project;<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Maintaining appropriate contacts with the personnel of BIRN, as well as all BIRN country offices and\/or personnel in order to ensure correct execution of the above duties;<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assisting the set up and subsequent maintenance of database of justice-related contacts;<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Carrying out any other unforeseen duties that may be required to ensure the smooth operation of BIRN\u2019s work such as covering for absent colleagues.<\/p>\n

Qualifications and characteristics of a successful candidate:<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Native speaker of Bosnian\/Croatian\/Serbian\/Montenegrin;<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excellent command of the English language (writing, reading, comprehension, and speaking);<\/p>\n

\uf0d8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At least three years of experience with online, print or broadcast media (advanced degree in journalism or related discipline desirable);<\/p>\n
