Antarkti\u010dkom geoidnom minimumu (Antarctic Geoid Low \u2013 AGL), najve\u0107em \u201egravitacijskom ponoru\u201c ili \u201erupi u gravitaciji\u201c na Zemlji. Ovo golem podru\u010dje oslabljene gravitacije nalazi se duboko ispod Antarktike, a najizra\u017eenije je upravo u dijelu Rosovog mora (zapadni dio Antarktike). Zbog toga nivo mora tamo pada \u010dak 130 metara ispod okolne povr\u0161ine okeana \u2013 voda doslovno \u201ebje\u017ei\u201c prema podru\u010djima ja\u010de gravitacije, pa povr\u0161ina okeana tone prema sredi\u0161tu Zemlje u toj zoni.<\/p>\n<p>Ova anomalija je poznata ve\u0107 godinama iz satelitskih mjerenja gravitacije, ali tek nedavno (studija iz 2025.\/2026.) su nau\u010dnici otkrili njezin pravi uzrok. Nije rije\u010d o nekoj povr\u0161inskoj rupi ili \u0161pilji, nego o izuzetno sporim kretanjima stijena manje gusto\u0107e duboko u Zemljinom pla\u0161tu (mantlu). Prije otprilike 70 miliona godina (jo\u0161 u doba dinosaurusa) po\u010delo je nakupljanje tih lak\u0161ih stijena ispod Antarktike zbog konvekcije u pla\u0161tu. Anomalija je tada bila slabija, a naglo se poja\u010dala izme\u0111u 50 i 30 miliona godina prije sada\u0161njosti \u2013 ba\u0161 u vrijeme kada se Antarktik po\u010deo sna\u017eno zale\u0111ivati.<\/p>\n<p>Nau\u010dnici (Alessandro Forte s Univerziteta Florida i Petar Gli\u0161ovi\u0107 iz Instituta za fiziku Zemlje u Parizu) rekonstruisali su ovo pomo\u0107u seizmi\u010dkih podataka o potresima (kao \u201eCT sken\u201c Zemlje) i fizikalnih modela. Ni\u017ei nivo mora omogu\u0107io je ledu da se bolje \u201eukotvi\u201c na kontinentalni \u0161elf umjesto da pluta i topi se. Zato postoji i spekulacija da duboki procesi u Zemljinoj unutra\u0161njosti indirektno uti\u010du na klimu i stabilnost leda.<\/p>\n<p>Sli\u010dna (ali manja) gravitacijska rupa postoji i u Indijskom okeanu (nivo mora tamo pada oko 100 m), ali antarkti\u010dka je najja\u010da na planetu.
